Paso a paso.

In January, 1999, the same year in which it snowed here in Bakersfield, California, the last year of last century, the same year in which my love and I met, I took the conscientious decision to stop smoking for good. Some people told me that I should not celebrate so early in the process and that I would "return to the old habit" again (to be honest, I had tried to quit smoking for about 12 other times before ...).
However, somehow, I started to have more faith in myself and in the path I had chosen this time: Not today. Not now. No, thanks. One step at a time. That was everything I needed. Simple. Effective.
Today,, twenty-one years and eleven months later, in the middle of a pandemic, I can proudly say that I did not have to swallow my words: So far, I have done what I said I would do. Thanks, God, for giving me the strength and wisdom to continue to choose to live to a healthier life. In order to lead, we have to give the best of ourselves.
